About
Abroad, fused glass is rapidly evolving with new techniques and ideas emerging swiftly. In contrast, New Zealand’s glass community primarily focuses on blown and cast glass, leaving fused glass underrepresented. Local artist Julie Beaumont’s vision is to demonstrate the accessibility of this art form and expand its reach.
“By introducing more people to fused glass, we can cultivate a larger and more vibrant art community and develop a unique local artform”.
Julie conducts regular classes throughout the year for people of diverse abilities and a wide range of levels. These classes offer the community a chance to unite in a creative and welcoming atmosphere, helping individuals build confidence in their skills.
“Developing and delivering these classes is crucial for my professional growth and sustainability as an artist. The process of teaching allows me to further enhance my own development.”
About the Creator
Julie Beaumont is a glass artist residing and creating in Warkworth.
“From my home studio, I craft unique art pieces, conduct workshops, and participate in local art exhibitions like Estuary Arts, the Great Summer Art Exhibition, Hospice Art Shows, and recently, the Mahurangi Artist Trail. My work primarily involves fused glass, incorporating distinctive design elements I create myself. Currently, I am studying under Narcissus Quagliata, a mentorship I have pursued for three years. Over time, I have mastered various techniques, including fused glass, slumping, p.te de verre, vitrography, glass painting, pattern bars, and deep glasswork.”
